Grading an Assignment

Grading an Assignment

Please note: Assignments and grading are only available with the interactive version of a book. Regular eBooks do not have these features.
Follow the steps below to grade an assignment.

You need to have already assigned the assignment and at least one of your students needs to have submitted at least one sub-lesson within that assignment before you can begin grading.

1. Navigate to the assignment you wish to grade.

a. One way to find an assignment is from the class dashboard. Click the Dashboard button in the navigation bar at the top of the screen and make sure the correct class name is displayed in the Class field.

b. Locate the assignment you wish to grade in the Assignments area. If there is student work that needs to be graded, the assignment status will be Needs Grading.

c. Click the assignment name to navigate to it.

d. You should now have opened the assignment.

2. By default, the assignment should open to the View Assignment view. You will need to switch to the Grade Assignment view in order to grade your students' work.

3. Click into the field showing View Assignment and select the Grade Assignment option.

4. Opening the Grade Assignment view will automatically open the work of one of your students. You can see which one by checking the field at the bottom of the page where that student's name is displayed. You can also switch students by clicking into the field and selecting a different student's name.

5. To grade your student's work, find each answer that needs grading on the page, shown in a light teal box. For each answer, you must select the appropriate number of points in the Points Awarded area and you can optionally provide feedback in the Teacher Feedback field. Then, you must click the Publish Score / Feedback button.

6. Once you have graded every answer on the page, the number of points earned will be displayed in the grading bar at the bottom of the page. Note that some types of questions, such as multiple choice, will be auto-graded when the student submits their work.

7. Note that you must grade each assigned sub-lesson individually. Each sub-lesson is located on its own page. You can navigate to the next sub-lesson by selecting it in the sub-lesson navigation bar near the top of the page.

8. Once you are ready to switch to the next student's work, click into the field showing the name of the student whose work you are currently viewing  at the bottom of the page. Then, select the name of the next student from the menu. Note that in the menu, the students are organized into Not Started, In Progress, Needs Grading, and Completed

9. You can verify that you have graded all the work that is available to grade by navigating to your class dashboard and checking that the Class Average area is green. Once all the work has been graded, the grade average will also appear.

10. Note that once an assignment's due date has passed, any work that has not been completed will automatically be given a score of 0. If you have selected the grace period option for an assignment, work can also be submitted and graded through the end date.
