Creating an Assignment

Creating an Assignment

Please note: Assignments are only available to teachers and students using the interactive version of a book. Regular eBooks do not have this feature. Before you begin, make sure that you have already created a class, assigned a product (book) to the class, and added your students to the class.

Follow the steps below to create an assignment for your students from the Assignments page.

1. After logging in to the Perfection Next platform, click the Assignments tab on the navigation bar at the top of the page.

2. You should be taken to the Manage Assignments page. Verify that the correct class is displayed in the Class field, then find the bar with the name of the book you are assigning from and expand it by clicking the arrow on the right side.

3. Navigate to the desired assignment. You may need to further expand sections of the menu by clicking the arrows on the right side.

4. Once you have found the desired assignment, click the Actions button in its row. If you would like to view the assignment first, you can click the name of the assignment to navigate to it.

5. Select Assign from the dropdown menu.

6. You should now be taken to the Create Assignment page for that assignment. Verify that the correct assignment is displayed in the field labeled Assignment Name. If you would like to provide additional instructions to your students, write those in the Directions box and they will be displayed when your students open the assignment.

7. Many of the lessons are divided into sub-lessons. All sub-lessons will be assigned by default, but you can unassign a sub-lesson by clicking the checkbox next to its name in the Sub-Lessons area.

8. In the Assign To area, you can choose which students to assign the assignment to. All students in the class will be selected by default. To view all the students, click the arrow next to the class name. Then, unassign the assignment from a student by clicking the checkbox next to that student's name.

9. Next, you can adjust the start date and due date of the assignment.

Click into the Start Date field to open a calendar and click on the desired date. Then, choose a time of day from the time columns. Note that only AM or PM times are shown at once, so you may need to switch between AM and PM to find the desired time. Click OK to save your selection and repeat the process for the Due Date.

After making your selections, double check that the correct days and times are displayed in the Start Date and Due Date fields.

10.  You can choose to enable a grace period for the assignment by selecting the checkbox and clicking into the End Date field to select the end of the grace period.

This will make it possible for students to submit the assignment for a grade after the due date has passed. However, after the grace period has passed they will no longer be allowed to submit the assignment and will receive a grade of 0.

11. Finally, you can change how the assignment is recorded in the gradebook by clicking into the field labeled Record in gradebook as

Select the desired option from the dropdown menu. The different options are for your own organizational purposes and will all be graded the same way by default.

12. Once you you have made all desired selections, click the blue Create Assignment button at the bottom of the page.

Remember that students will only be able to complete the assignment after the start date and before the due date or end date.
